The 2022 bucking bull season kicks off at 10:00 a.m., Saturday November 20th, with a coming 2-year-old bull event followed by coming 3-year-old bull event. Additional event details to be posted soon.

The MBBA gives contractors the opportunity to showcase their up-and-coming animal athletes in sanctioned competitions that award cash prizes for top performers.

Yearling and Futurity events are for bulls one and two years of age, respectively. They buck with a 15-pound weighted box (“dummy”) on their back which is released via remote control. Yearling and Futurity bulls are bucked for four seconds at a time under the dummy, which serves as a training method and teaches young bulls skills they will later need when they do face a rider. The yearling and futurity bulls compete in a riderless bucking contest that is scored by judges

Derby events are for bulls three years of age. These bulls will then begin the process of learning to buck with a rider. The transition can sometimes be a tricky one considering these bulls can be like awkward teenagers at this stage of their development. To receive a score, the rider must stay on top of the bull for eight seconds. The bulls are still judged on their bucking ability.
